biography

Ellen Portch (b.1977) studied painting at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland under the guidance of Don Binney, Séraphine Pick, and Peter Gibson Smith, amongst others. Since 1998, she has mounted several well-received exhibitions including The Fellowship, held at Old Government House in 2006. The exhibition Wall held in Projectspace in 2010 was complemented by a book-length publication from Titus Books. In 2014 a solo exhibition held at the George Fraser Gallery The Road to Island Block showcased nine major paintings. As well as being a practicing artist Ellen has taught painting and drawing at Elam for over a decade.
